Unit 66 3D Modeling Proposal.
Working Title:
For my first 3D modelling project I will be following the gaming brief and have decided to produce weapons which may be used in a fantasy game genre. This genre of game revolves around exploration and combat so I feel creating weapons for this genre of game will allow me to explore different variants on weapons, as they will be used in a fantasy setting in which I have the room to exaggerate the weapons.
Target Audience. Client and Use
Due to the nature of these games they tend to be rated at PEGI 12+ through 18+ due to cartoon violence or offensive language; so I feel people aged 13 - 25 to be a suitable target audience for my choice of modelling. Different companies may hold different standards when it comes to producing content for their games, one of the most popular companies in this field, Square Enix, holds a high standard when it comes to producing their titles. Design of objects such as weapons or an environment mean a lot in a video game, for example, if one weapon looks visually appealing compared to another, a player may choose to use the more appealing weapon. An environment is created to immerse the player in the game (story also plays a huge part in this but can not be transferred to modelling). Due to the importance of something being visually appealing I need to make sure to create a model that will also be appealing, but will also fit into the theme.
This model can be used for different types of media such as fan games or short animations.
Key Visual Themes
Seeing as though I am making a weapon for a video game there is going to be metal used on the model which will give it a shiny look. With making a weapon for a fantasy type game it can be somewhat exaggerated, which means the object can be larger than normal, or it can have a strange shape, such as multiple sharp edges or multiple curves etc..
Constraints
The models I plan on making will be used within a game and in order for these models to be used within a game they have to look appealing and well made. Some constraints may be making the model vastly detailed in terms of textures, colour or details on the model.
